A lifetime,
not just years
but a life lived.
Loved
Laughed
Enjoyed

A family and friends
gather on a day where
God has relented
and allowed the sun
to shine.

The warmth seeps through sad
bodies and lights the damp
church.
Beautiful lights play across
the tear streaked faces
and every now and then
brighten to a sad smile.

Words flow through the stones,
around the gathered people,
they envelop
and comfort
and the church hums with
fond memories.

Outside the breeze
caresses the land.
The trees swaying.
One lost leaf
floats to the ground,
seemingly dead and
at its end.

When it is swept up by
a memory
and carried off in the sky,
in to the heart of God.

"But when everything has been said and done,
You'll realise life is here to be enjoyed,
It shouldnt just be one of your many chores,
Life is measured by how you have lived,
Not by the amount of time you have spent living..."

"What it means to be fully human is to strive by ideas and ideals and not to measure your life by what you ever attain in terms of your desires, but those small moments of integrity, compassion, rationality, even self-sacrifice."

Hmmm...
:iconmel-f:
It's a pleasure. Did it quickly 'casue I was inspired. Your stories seem to do that quite often... Let me know when you're done brewing your plan... :D
:iconadriandomenico:
OK! I'm a brewer now! Cool!

Yeah, it's nothing much. I've put your poem alongside my story on a single page. It just seemed like the right thing to do. I put a sample in my scraps for you to see --> [link]

I'm not sure what to do with it. I've thought about reading it out in church one Sunday, but I don't think that'll happen. I thought I could make a photographic mount of it and put it on the church notice board for a short while. I think the wardens might agree to that, and the widow. I also thought it might be nice to present it, or at least show it to the widow. I know her, and I'm sure she'll appreciate it.

Truth is, I shall probably do none of these things right now, but do you see the effect your writing can have? Whatever, I eventually do, I'll need your permission to use your work, and I'll ask you at the time.

You are a fine, talented and thoughtful young woman, touching people half a world away with your well chosen words, and showing an understanding beyond your years.
